How To Sprint Faster For Soccer

Speed kills for soccer! As a soccer player you need to have an explosive first step and ability to rapidly change direction. 

One way to run faster for soccer is by improving your sprinting technique (running mechanics).

This allows you to be more efficient with your what force you have as soccer player so you can transfer it to the ground, causing you to sprint faster.

In this video we have Alyssa (Nationals Soccer) during her training session with us at Athletic Preparation and today's speed training session was focused on acceleration.

Below is a Before / After from a coaches eye on what we seen from the athlete that day and from there we provided her with some simple coaching ques / and speed training drills to let her relax and focus on what would help her sprint faster.

Soccer Acceleration Mechanics

BEFORE COACHING

  • Short & Choppy Steps
  • Poor Posture That Leaks Power

  • Big & Powerful Strides Maximizing Force
  • Tall & Powerful Posture
  • Aggressive Forward Arm Swing

Conclusion:

Many athletes don't consider their posture while sprinting. That's the first thing we address as a coach and that often improves athletes speed and sprinting mechanics (in their arms / legs).

Alyssa is a highly-motivated athlete who want's to get better and improve to play at the next level and she made instant adjustments to get the most out of her training session so she could sprint faster for soccer!
